Girl Scout Junior Charlotte Rich has been awarded the GSUSA Lifesaving Award for quick thinking, calm leadership and decisive action during a recent medical emergency at home.
When Charlotte’s father experienced a dangerously high blood glucose reading and became unable to manage his medications, Charlotte acted immediately.
She called 911 and her mother, kept her toddler sibling safe, and stayed with her father until emergency responders arrived.
Because of her presence of mind and steady response, her father received urgent medical care that likely prevented a far worse outcome.
“Once Charlotte realized she couldn’t physically mix the medications together and inject it, she called 911. Without her help, I could have died,” Bryan Rich said.
This recognition honors Charlotte’s courage, responsibility and selfless leadership. Her actions exemplify what it means to act with compassion under pressure and to protect others when every minute counts.
“Congratulations to Charlotte for her bravery and example of leadership in a critical moment,” said Justin Liggins of the Girl Scouts–Arizona Cactus-Pine Council.
