Indigenous Peoples' Day
Indigenous Peoples' Day is a holiday in the United States that celebrates and honors Indigenous peoples' cultures, histories, and contributions. It recognizes colonialism's impact on Native American communities and aims to provide a more accurate representation of their history.
The day acknowledges the resilience, diversity, and enduring culture of Indigenous peoples across the Americas. It is typically observed on the second Monday in October, the same day that Columbus Day has traditionally been celebrated. Over the years, many cities, states, and institutions have adopted Indigenous Peoples' Day to highlight Indigenous perspectives and correct historical narratives that have often overlooked or misrepresented Native histories.
