Construction on Verrado Way from Yuma to Van Buren began today and will run through early fall, according to the City of Buckeye.
The Verrado Way at Yuma intersection will be fully closed during construction.
“We know that’s an inconvenience, but it helps get everything done months sooner and it will be worth it in the end,” the city stated in a post on social media. “We’re expanding the intersection at Verrado Way & Yuma, adding lanes, and fixing long-standing drainage issues by raising the roadway several feet.”
This project will add travel lanes in each direction on Verrado Way from Yuma Road to Van Buren Street, along with upgraded traffic signals, street lighting, utility work and significant drainage improvements.
Completing the work under a full closure will accelerate the overall timeline by nearly a year and save millions of dollars compared with phased construction, according to the city of Buckeye.
Access to businesses, residences and schools will be maintained. However, because routes may not be direct, drivers should plan for extra travel time.
Planned Improvements
This project focuses on enhancing safety, capacity and infrastructure:
- Intersection Expansion: Construction of the ultimate configuration of three through lanes and dual left turn lanes.
- Capacity: Adding an additional lane to Verrado Way from Yuma Road to Van Buren Street.
