Highway Patrol State Troopers arrested a man who blew a .358 on a mobile breathalyzer Tuesday in Buckeye.

On Tuesday, emergency dispatchers received a call about a stopped vehicle blocking the left lane on Arizona Highway 85 near Gas Pipeline Road.

According to a post on social media by the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the caller stated that the vehicle had been stopped for 5-10 minutes and other vehicles had swerved to avoid striking it.

When troopers located the vehicle, they found the driver “struggling to put it in drive,” according to the post.

Troopers stated that the driver was speaking “incoherently and was unable to stand on his own.”

When asked why he was stopped in the left lane, he replied, “I’m drunk,” the post states.

“An open 1.75-liter bottle of whiskey was observed on the front passenger seat,” the post states. “The driver was unable to perform field sobriety tests but consented to a preliminary breath test which indicated 0.358 blood-alcohol content. He was charged with DUI, and his vehicle was impounded for 20 days.

“Drinking and driving is extremely dangerous for everyone on the road. If you're going to drink, have a plan beforehand for a safe and sober ride home. Don't sleep it off on the highways,” the post states.

The identity of the driver has not yet been made available.
