A franchisee is proposing to convert an old downtown church into a Theory-brand preschool branch, near the intersection of Fifth Street and E. Mahoney Avenue, according to city records obtained by InBuckeye.

The business pre-application seeks to convert Casa de Oracion’s 3,140-square-foot church building into a preschool or childcare center with a capacity of 59 children.

According to city records, the applicant is currently closing in on the purchase of the property.

The applicant believes affordable childcare in the city is a vital need.

“There will be a positive impact for the residents of Buckeye, providing an additional option for preschool and child care services as many facilities currently operating in the City are often at full capacity and have wait-lists,” wrote the applicant. “We will also become a DES-certified center to offer preschool and child care services to lower-income families.”

The building's square footage would remain the same, with changes only to the paint and signage.

Interior floor plan modifications may be made to create classrooms of appropriate sizes. According to the application, landscaping changes would convert a mix of grass, gravel, sidewalks and dirt to accommodate approximately 3000 square feet of fenced outdoor play space.
