Buckeye firefighters put out a small fire Thursday night at the Safeway at Verrado Marketplace.
Crews, along with Automatic Aid partners and Buckeye Police Department, responded to the structure fire on the roof of the supermarket.
“On arrival, crews found a fire on the roof of the Safeway and were able to make a quick knockdown and contain the fire to a small area,” the Buckeye Fire Department states on its social media page. “Because of the fast, coordinated response, the fire did not extend into the building.
Damage was limited to the roof, and crews were able to keep the fire from spreading to nearby construction materials, preventing what could have been a much larger incident, according to the department.
No injuries were reported.
Buckeye fire investigators are working to determine the cause.
The retail center on Verrado Way north of Interstate 10 is expected to open this month with anchor tenants at Target, Harkins Backlot, Ross, Marshalls and HomeGoods, along with specialty retailers ULTA, Famous Footwear, Buckle, Bath & Body Works, See’s Candies and America’s Best Contacts & Glasses.
