The Buckeye Fire Department responded to a natural gas leak Tuesday on North 3rd Street and East Edison after a construction crew struck a natural gas line with heavy equipment, according to a statement released Tuesday evening by the department.
Once on scene, fire crews established a safety perimeter while the department’s Hazardous Materials Unit worked to control the incident.
The damaged line was “rapidly secured in coordination with the utility provider,” according to the BFD statement.
“Due to the swift actions of responding personnel, the situation was stabilized without the need for evacuations,” the statement reads.
No injuries were reported.
Buckeye Fire Department officials remind contractors and residents to always contact Arizona 811 before digging to help prevent utility strikes and ensure the safety of workers and the community.
The incident was safely resolved and normal operations resumed in the area on Wednesday.
