The City of Buckeye's Capital Improvements Program is executing a multi-year infrastructure project to expand Jackrabbit Trail, according to a project update released on Tuesday.
The initiative is a direct response to accelerating regional growth, aiming to increase roadway capacity and deliver more reliable infrastructure for residents, according to Allyson Camillucci, project manager.
The initiative will widen the road, add traffic signals and include aesthetic upgrades.
While construction will cause traffic shifts and lane controls, the city has committed to avoiding any full road closures throughout the project's duration, which is scheduled for completion in the fall of 2027, Cammillucci says.
The project is designed to address current and future traffic demands in a rapidly developing area of the city along Jackrabbit Trail, between McDowell and Thomas Roads.
The $19.3 million project will be paid for from the city’s general fund and is part of the 2026-2030 Capital Improvement Program.
The end result will see a wider road with three lanes in each direction.
New traffic signals will be installed at McDowell Road and Thomas Road.
Construction will begin on Friday and run through the fall of 2027.
