Buckeye Police Officer Thomas Baldwin earned the recognition "for his response to a recent alarm call," according to a statement from the department.
During a post-contact survey, a resident said they and their spouse were away from home when their alarm went off.
"Officer Baldwin checked the home, inside and outside, and was able to assure the couple they were safe," a social media post states. "We are proud of Officer Baldwin's diligence in bringing calm and relief to an otherwise stressful situation."
The resident said he was able to communicate with Baldwin through cameras.
"He stayed until my wife arrived back home, checked out home from the perimeter and interior once access was gained and did his best to assure my wife all was well," the resident stated in a story released by police.
He said the alarm sounded by something that triggered the motion sensor.
"The officer handled the situation with absolute professionalism.
