As expected, the City of Buckeye is moving forward with a proposal to increase the size of Skyline Regional Park Expansion through a lease from The Bureau of Land Management .

The BLM offered the city a 25-year, no-cost lease for two parcels totaling 640 acres adjacent to Skyline Regional Park, expanding its footprint to 9,315 acres.

This aligns with the Parks and Recreation Master Plan's priority of open space preservation, according to city officials.

“The great part about these recreational public purpose leases is that there's no cost to the city, there's no annual lease payment required or any upfront lease costs, said Robert Wisner, deputy director of Community Services. “The plan of amenities that we've identified in the plan of development are consistent with the council approved Parks and Recreation Master Plan.

Proposed Improvements:

South Parcel: Plans include an access drive, parking, restrooms, an ADA-accessible trail, and trail connections.

North Parcel: Plans include an access drive, parking, restrooms, a bike skills course and trail connections to the Verrado community.

Improvements aren’t expected to be accomplished until 2030-2031, Wisner said.
