Gas prices in Buckeye remained unchanged heading into the weekend, even as motorists across the country brace for heavy Memorial Day travel and renewed pressure at the pump.

According to an InBuckeye survey of local stations, the average price for regular gasoline in Buckeye was $4.90 per gallon Friday — the same as one week earlier — though prices fluctuated slightly during the past seven days.

Buckeye drivers are continuing to pay more than both the Arizona statewide average of $4.81 per gallon and the national average of $4.53.

The West Coast remains the only region with consistently higher fuel prices, with averages at or above $6 per gallon in parts of Southern California and the Pacific Northwest.

Nationally, gas prices had declined for five consecutive days earlier this week before beginning to rise again. AAA reports crude oil prices hovering near the $100-per-barrel range are continuing to keep pressure on fuel costs nationwide.

Current national averages are now approaching levels last seen in 2022, when gasoline prices reached historic highs.

The timing comes as millions of Americans prepare to travel during the upcoming Memorial Day holiday period. Analysts say drivers are likely to encounter the highest Memorial Day gas prices seen in the last four years.

Electric vehicle charging costs remained stable during the week. The national average price for electricity at a public EV charging station held steady at 41 cents per kilowatt hour.
