Buckeye was recently named the sixth safest city in Arizona in terms of crime, according to research and data firm SafeWise.
SafeWise analyzed the most recent FBI data released in October 2024, ranking cities by property and violent crime.
Buckeye was the safest city for property crimes in Maricopa County, with 8.42 property crime incidents per 1,000.
Buckeye's violent crime rate was 1.78, the 10th-lowest in Arizona. According to SafeWise, the combination of property crime and violent crime rates subjectively places Buckeye sixth overall in the state.
Glendale was the most violent city, with nearly three times the crime rate of Buckeye at 5.54.
Oro Valley was ranked as the safest city, followed by Queen Creek, Gilbert, Sahuarita, Surprise, Buckeye, Maricopa, Marana, Chandler, and Prescott Valley.
Arizonans worried more about property crime during the 2025 reporting year than in the previous year, according to SafeWise. 63% of survey respondents expressed concern about property crime, exceeding the national sentiment of 54%.
In SafeWise’s survey, 38% of Arizonans experienced package theft, up from 36% in the previous year and one percentage point higher than the national average.
