American Legion Hazelton-Butler Post and Unit 53 held its second annual Volunteer Appreciation brunch on June 22 at Buckeye Community Veterans Service Center. The event, catered by Jeannie's Cooking, celebrated those who donated volunteer hours in 2023 and 2024.
"As most know, Post 53 and unit 53 Aux are completely volunteer organizations," said the Legion's Facebook post. "If the doors are open to the Post 53 Home, which is the Buckeye Community Veterans Service Center, it is because there are volunteers that have offered their time to be there. If the building is maintained, heated, cooled and cleaned, it is because there are volunteers at fundraiser events to help bring in the money to pay the bills or there were volunteers that offered their time to make those things happen."
Certificates were given by Unit 53 President Trina Stark to volunteers who contributed more than 100 and more than 50 hours to events, sorting and distributing donations for Mirna's Place and at Feed My Sheep Food Pantry events. Certificates were also given for volunteers who gave special contributions including building renovations and maintenance and maintaining open hours at the Service Center.
