A senior adult activity center for those with memory issues celebrated its ribbon cutting in Goodyear on Friday.
The aim of the Synergy-owned Tumbleweed Club senior center is to give caretakers a break from the stress that can come from juggling two or more responsibilities at a time.
In attendance were Goodyear Councilmember Benita Beckles, Avondale Vice Mayor Curtis Nielson and West Valley Regional Chamber executive Amapola Judd-Shrimp.
Owner Sarah Claridge thanked the elected notables and friends for showing up.
“I want to say thank you so much for coming out here in December of 2020 in the midst of COVID on all of the craziness in 2021 was just awful as well. We're so grateful to be able to do this to provide such a wonderful service,” she said.
Claridge said she understood the pain a lot of loved ones go through when care-taking.
“It's essential to be able to provide this service. To be able to give family caregivers the rest that they need,” she said. “We have caregivers, twenty-four-seven, who love their parents but can get burned out and then feel guilty for it. Having this club gives them a spot where they know their loved ones are to be well taken care of.”
