For years, Buckeye residents have watched the city's retail scene grow with each new neighborhood, shopping center and national brand. Now, another highly anticipated retailer is ready to open its doors.

Dick's Sporting Goods will officially celebrate the grand opening of its new Buckeye Commons location July 10-12, bringing one of the nation's leading sporting goods retailers to one of Arizona's fastest-growing communities.

Located at 20660 W. Roosevelt St., just east of Verrado Way near Interstate 10, the new 50,000-square-foot store fills a long-standing need for local families, athletes and outdoor enthusiasts who have traditionally driven to Goodyear or other West Valley communities for sporting equipment and athletic apparel.

The arrival of Dick's Sporting Goods marks another milestone for Buckeye Commons, which has quickly evolved into one of the city's premier shopping destinations since Costco opened there in 2023. As additional national retailers continue choosing Buckeye, residents are finding more reasons to shop close to home while the city strengthens its reputation as a regional retail destination.

"Our community has reached the point where national retailers recognize Buckeye as a market they can't afford to overlook," said Buckeye Mayor Eric Orsborn. "Every new business that opens gives our residents more choices, creates local jobs and keeps more shopping dollars here in Buckeye."

The grand opening celebration promises to be an event for sports fans and bargain hunters alike.

Arizona Cardinals Pro Bowl tight end Trey McBride will make a special appearance at 4-5:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 12, giving fans the opportunity to meet one of Arizona's most popular professional athletes. Visitors are encouraged to arrive early, as lines are expected to form well before the event begins.

Throughout the three-day celebration, the first 100 adults in line each morning will have a chance to receive mystery gift cards worth up to $500. Guests can also participate in Dick's Grand Challenge interactive games, compete for exclusive prizes and take advantage of grand opening promotions and doorbuster deals available throughout the weekend.

Inside, shoppers will find an extensive selection of athletic footwear, apparel and equipment from many of the industry's leading brands. The store also features gear for baseball, softball, football, basketball, golf, fitness, camping, hiking and a variety of outdoor activities, making it a one-stop destination for athletes and active families.

While the new store offers added convenience for shoppers, its economic impact extends well beyond retail.

National retailers often evaluate communities based on population growth, household income and long-term development potential before making investment decisions. Dick's Sporting Goods' decision to locate in Buckeye reflects the city's continued emergence as one of the West Valley's fastest-growing commercial markets.

Each new retailer strengthens Buckeye's ability to attract additional investment, while creating employment opportunities and generating sales tax revenue that helps fund essential city services, parks, roads and public safety.

For residents, however, the benefits are even more personal.

Instead of planning a trip across the Valley for a new baseball glove, hiking boots or running shoes, families can now find what they need just minutes from home. Youth sports organizations will have easier access to equipment, outdoor enthusiasts can stock up before heading into Arizona's mountains or deserts, and shoppers gain another major retailer that complements the growing collection of businesses already calling Buckeye Commons home.

As Buckeye continues to welcome new neighborhoods and businesses, the opening of Dick's Sporting Goods represents more than another ribbon cutting. It's another sign that the city is maturing into a full-service community where residents can live, work, shop and play without leaving town.
