School bus with eight children on board crashes

Update: Buckeye Police said the driver the of pickup truck was cited for failing to stop at a stop sign as well as an equipment violation for some issues with the trailer they were hauling. No updates on the children.

Buckeye police and fire crews are on the scene of a traffic collision involving a small school bus and a pickup truck near Rainbow Road and Sundance Parkway. The crash occurred Wednesday Jan. 15, and emergency responders are actively assessing individuals for possible injuries.

Approximately eight students aboard the bus, along with the bus driver, are being evaluated for potential injuries, police said. At least two of them were taken to the hospital as a precaution, police said at 2:55 p.m. "A reunification center has been set up at the Buckeye Learning Center at 751 N. 215th Ave. The crash is under investigation."

Additionally, the driver and passenger of the pickup truck involved in the crash are undergoing medical assessments. At this time, there have been no confirmed reports of severe injuries.

Traffic in the area is heavily restricted as police investigate and emergency crews work to clear the scene. Drivers are advised to avoid the area and use Lower Buckeye Road to Watson Road as an alternate route.

Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available. Motorists are urged to drive cautiously in the vicinity to ensure the safety of emergency responders and others involved in the incident.
