The man killed in Sunday night's home invasion has been identified as 27-year-old Michael Diaz.
Original story
An intruder is dead after confronting an armed resident Sunday night near Yuma Road and 237th Lane, according to Buckeye Police.
Buckeye police responded to a shots fired call just before 9 p.m. on Sunday on Desert Bloom Street.
When officers arrived, they found a man inside the home suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and three other people uninjured. Emergency medical crews treated the injured man who later died on scene.
Police investigators said a mother and her two adult children were at the home when they heard someone banging on their door. When the man began to force his way into the home, one of the children, an adult male, retrieved a handgun and went to the door just as the intruder broke through the security door and stepped
inside, according to police.
That's when the man fired at the intruder, according to police.
Police said there's no indication the family knew the intruder, who is described as a man in his late 20s.
Police have not yet identified the intruder.
Police said this is the first fatal shooting in Buckeye in more than a year. Only one home invasion (May 2025) took place in the past year.
