Buckeye police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred late Sunday morning in a downtown neighborhood, leaving a man in his 50s dead at the scene.

The deceased victim is identified as 56-year-old Ewell Mccrae, according to Buckeye police.
Officers were dispatched around 10:45 a.m. to the area of 3rd St. and Centre Ave. after reports of gunfire. When they arrived, they found a man in his 50s lying in a yard with a gunshot wound. Officers initiated life-saving measures, including applying a chest seal, before Buckeye Fire personnel took over care. Despite those efforts, the victim was pronounced dead on scene, according to Buckeye police.
Police later learned the suspected shooter had gone to a nearby church shortly after the incident and then left. Some time later, the suspect returned to the scene, where officers detained him without incident, according to Buckeye police. He is being questioned about his involvement.
